Associate Statistician

This position is located in the Social and Demographic Statistics Section of the Statistical Division of the Economic Commission for Europe. The Associate Statistician reports to the P5 Chief of Section.

**Responsibilities**:
Within delegated authority, the Associate Statistician will be responsible for the following duties:

- Assists in the development or revision of guidelines on concepts, definitions and methodologies on social and demographic statistics by performing methodological research and communicating with experts.
- Assists in drafting documents and reports for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings.
- Processes and analyses statistical data for reports on social and demographic topics and the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Assists in the organization of expert meetings (in person and online) and capacity-building workshops in social and demographic statistics.
- Maintains interactive online workspaces of expert groups.
- Drafts short news articles on statistical activities and results for the UNECE website and social media.
- Assists in developing, implementing and managing statistical databases.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related field is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years experience in statistics is required.

Work experience in social and demographic statistics is desirable.

Work experience with national official statistics, international expert groups, and statistical capacity-building is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and Russian is a working language of UNECE.
For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Russian is desirable.
