Advancements in technology have the potential to revolutionize how we address pressing climate and environmental challenges facing our planet. At the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), we are committed to driving technology-enabled solutions for the Earth, pioneering a sustainable and just transition to meet future societal needs.
To prioritize strategic climate technology-related workstreams through a period of parental leave, the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution is recruiting a Lead, Climate Technologies. This role will work closely an active Climate Technologies Lead from the C4IR and initiative leads within the Centre for Nature and Climate to manage ambitious initiatives and thought leadership development—mobilizing business leaders, experts from top research universities worldwide, government officials, start-up entrepreneurs, media, and civil society organizations.
Reporting lines & interactions
The Lead, Climate Technologies reports into the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Physical Technologies Level 3 manager. The Lead will also actively engage in building and maintaining productive relationships among climate technology initiatives, independent C4IR Centres and Forum Partners. Establishing productive relationships externally and across the Forum will be of utmost importance for succeeding in this role.
Breakdown of main responsibilities:
- Incubate prioritized growth initiatives where needed and ensure outputs and ambition levels are aligned with the other Forum’s activities, including those related to the AI and climate nexus, frontier climate technologies, green cities, and the environmental costs of technology- Support and ensure alignment with the work across the Forum teams involved in climate and nature technology agenda, including but not limited to the- Tech for Climate Adaptation
- initiative,- Earth Observation
- Initiative, and the Centre for Nature and Climate activities- Manage engagement of existing and prospective Forum Partners in climate technology initiatives to contribute to partner retention and acquisition.- Develop and implement the strategic integration with the C4IR affiliate Centres interested in climate technologies to ensure seamless collaboration with the World Economic Forum - connecting them at the global level and enabling them to drive their regional agendas- Stay abreast of the latest developments in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and related fields, providing thought leadership within the organization and externally- Support with programming and design of events and sessions, working with Forum teams and external experts to capture relevant knowledge for use in programming- Monitor the impact reporting and results measurement for climate technologies initiatives.- Keep workstreams on target, timeline and budget through the effective management and leadership of teams, internal and external stakeholders, budgets and processes, as well as through effective communication and reporting
Preferred requirements and experience- Broad intellectual background and interests with a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant topic such as business administration, economics, data science, sustainability or the natural sciences; and a proven interest in global affairs.- 7+ years of experience in private and/or public sector, including as a project manager with a track record of building and driving successful initiatives related to technology, climate, or sustainability.- Deep understanding of emerging technologies and their potential in addressing environmental and climate challenges.- Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.- Demonstrated experience in managing diverse teams and leading cross-functional projects.- Passion for sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and a strong commitment to making a positive impact on global challenges.-
- Entrepreneurial approach to identifying and prioritizing activities and impact opportunities.- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.- Excellent verbal and written language skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
