**Presentation**:
The Centre for Gender Studies (CEG) of the University of Lausanne (UNIL) seeks a **Postdoctoral Researcher** for the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) project “Feminist resistance to trans inclusion in women-only spaces in the US and UK” (FNS PZ00P1_208890/1). Led by sociologist and gender scholar Dr Madeleine Pape, the project examines how feminist actors in the United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) are influencing policies and legislation defining the rights of transgender people. It is influenced by feminist science studies and Science and Technology Studies (STS) in attending to how these groups deploy scientific knowledge and claims to expertise, alongside other discursive and ideological strategies, as part of their mobilization efforts.

This qualitative research project focuses on two key periods of national debate in the two countries when feminist lobby groups emerged to oppose the access of trans women to women-only spaces and to defend “biological sex” as the basis of (cisgender) women’s rights: the Equality Act in the US (2019-2022), and proposed revisions to the Gender Recognition Act in the UK (2017-2020). The project will shed light on how feminist actors, and debates around womanhood and biology, figure in and are shaping a wider landscape characterized by political polarization around issues perceived by conservative actors as threatening the solidarity of the cis-normative, hetero-patriarchal, white nation-state.

The postdoctoral researcher will be centrally involved in the collection and analysis of diverse forms of qualitative data, including interviews, policy and legislative submissions, and online materials. They will be expected to contribute to publications and present findings at international conferences as well as to engage with non-scientific audiences. They will also be expected and supported to pursue their own independent research and publication agenda, which should ideally relate to the primary project.

Yearly gross salary: Based on the salary scale defined by the Canton of Vaud for postdoctoral researchers (Senior Researcher) funded by grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation

**Your qualifications**:
1. A PhD in Sociology, Gender Studies, or related field awarded by the time of the position start date.

2. Highly skilled qualitative researcher, with experience collecting and managing diverse data types (e.g., interviews, observation, texts, online materials).

Familiarity with STS and intersectionality literature also desirable.

4. Good research and publication record relative to career stage and clearly defined independent research agenda.

5. Record of public engagement on social justice topics.

6. Fluency in English (working language) required, including ability to write academic publications in English. Familiarity with French is desirable but not required.

7. Good knowledge of French for campus activities
