**OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME**:
**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES**:
The incumbent develops and implements research, technological and methodological innovations, and evidence synthesis in addressing inequalities in sexual and reproductive health, including those related to gender and other socio-economic factors such as ethnicity, disability, migration, sexual orientation, gender identity, class. In conducting this work, the incumbent develops and liaises on international collaborative efforts, engages in WHO Organization-wide initiatives, and contributes to policy development and advocacy activities in the field, contributing to the broader goal of improving sexual and reproductive health and rights globally. Focussing on inequalities in sexual and reproductive health, the incumbent will:
- Serve as technical and scientific reference in addressing intersectional inequalities including gender and other socio-economic inequalities and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health among the peer community, Member States, cosponsors and other UN Agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to research priority setting, drawing on the scientific literature, recommendations of HRP advisory bodies, input from Member States and cosponsoring agencies, colleagues, managers, and other stakeholders. Based on research priorities developed, the incumbent will develop short-term operational plans and longer-term strategic plans for research and development in this area.
- Design and implement innovative research activities, including:
- the development of research protocols,
- identification and recruitment of national partner research institutions,
- drafting and production of research agreements,
- organization of scientific meetings,
- organization and facilitation of training workshops,
- conducting research site monitoring visits,
- identify and collaborate with data management companies or organizations,
- management of the network of institutions participating in the research projects,
- analysis, write-up and publication of results,
- evaluation of processes and results in preparation for subsequent research projects.
- Conduct capacity building of research centres to carry out high quality research that is compliant with generally accepted scientific and ethical standards.
- Synthesize evidence, carry out and commission systematic reviews of the literature in the field, input to evidence-based clinical and managerial guidelines.
- Provide guidance to counterparts in Member States, UN agencies, other inter-governmental and non-governmental agencies on scientific and technical matters, working in close collaboration with WHO Regional and Country Offices.
- Prepare technical progress reports governing and advisory bodies, WHO reporting requirements, and donors.
- Develop and draft manuscripts adequate publication in the scientific literature of research outputs, and coordinate related communications activities to strengthen the dissemination, adaptation, and use of WHO and HRP outputs by WHO Member States, working in close collaboration with the HRP communications team and the WHO Department of Communications.
- Collaborate with counterparts in governments, NGOs, private sector, and other stakeholders to generate and use evidence for increased access to sexual and reproductive health and rights.
- Undertake fundraising activities for increased financial support this programme of work.
- Carry out other tasks, as required by the Unit Head and Director.
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**:
**Essential**: Advanced university degree in public health, gender studies, or another field that contributes to gender equality and sexual and reproductive health.
**Desirable**: Ph.D. in a field related to public health or sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, women's studies, or other social sciences.
**Experience**:
**Essential**:
- At least 7 years of experience in research and research management relating to gender equality, intersectionality and sexual and reproductive health, including exposure at the international level
- Experience in gender equality or intersectionality in relation to policy analysis and development.
- Direct experience of coordinating or leading research projects.
**Desirable**:
- Working experience in a UN agency or an international nongovernmental organization in low
- and middle-income countries.
- Experience with supporting global consensus development processes, policies and negotiations.
**Skills**:
- Expert knowledge of gender equality, intersectionality, equity and sexual and reproductive health within the context of public health.
