The Musculoskeletal Disease (MSD) Institute is part of NIBR and our mission is to target musculoskeletal diseases and injuries to restore mobility and independence to patients.
The MSD department at NIBR is looking for an independent Research Associate to join a laboratory in the Molecular and Cell Biology II of MSD in Basel, Switzerland.
- Performing in vitro experiments, mainly cell-based assays using primary cells, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and a variety of cell lines to support projects
- Supporting identification and validation of novel targets in neuromuscular disease relevant indications as well as more broadly within the scope of MSD.
- Use of viral vectors (lentivirus, AAV, adenovirus) to transduce cells as well as analysis using RNA and protein based methods
- Support cell modifications using CRISPR/Cas, antisense oligonucleotides and siRNAs
This role will help target musculoskeletal diseases and injuries to restore mobility and independence to patients.

**Minimum requirements**
What you will bring to the role:
- Three to five years of post-graduate work experience, preferably with experience in an industrial environment
- Broad knowledge in molecular and cellular biology and biochemistry in exploratory environment
- Good knowledge in a wide range of techniques in molecular biology (DNA & RNA purification, RT-qPCR, gene silencing, CRISPR), biochemistry (protein extraction, SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting, immunoprecipitation), ELISA, FACS, cell biology (cell culture, transient transfections, viral transduction)
- Development and implementation of new cellular systems and high throughput assays, including induced pluripotent stem cell or primary cell assays (eg neurons and microglia)
- Good experience with mammalian cell culture is a must, iPS experience would be an additional plus
- Experience in planning, execution, documentation, analysis and interpretation of experiments with support from supervision
- Good communication with fluency in English (spoken and written), with German and/or French an advantage. Strong interpersonal skills, high motivation and effectively working in a well-organized manner in a team environment
