Our ISO-certified subsidiary in Bern currently employs a total of 40 people in research and development, production, logistics, packaging, and marketing. In our small research and development department, we develop new immunodiagnostic tests and improve existing tests for our Livestock, Poultry and Dairy division.

This is a full-time fixed-term internship position based in our laboratory in Bern, Switzerland available from Spring 2024 onwards, for a minimum period of 6 months.

**Primary mission**:
Develop an enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) for the detection of antibodies directed against BVDV in individual milk samples and in pools of 50 individual samples. The development of the ELISA will include the definition of the raw material used to coat the plates and used for the detection system, the design of the assay schematic and the design of an optimal ELISA test protocol.

**In this role, you will**:
Be supervised by a project manager and work alongside another laboratory technician.
Work in the laboratory in compliance with good laboratory practice (GLP basics)
Plan and carry out laboratory experiments.
Analyze data and present them in both written and oral form.
Participate in the daily routine work of the laboratory (e.g. upkeeping and maintenance of the equipment)

**What you will need to succeed**:
You are currently completing a Masters degree, specializing in Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific field. Alternatively, Life Science/Biotechnology will also be considered.
Ideally, you already have knowledge of Immunology, Virology, Immunoassay and/or Biotechnology. Knowledge of Microbiology or Molecular and Cellular Biology would be a plus.
Experience in ELISA, Western Blot, cell culture, protein expression and purification.
**Computer skills**: Pack Office / Excel is primarily required. JMP, LabCollector or ELN software are not required but would be an asset.
You are fluent in German & English (written and spoken) and feel comfortable in presenting in both languages.
You are a flexible team player and a good communicator for collaboration within a small R&D team.
You are curious, you easily take initiatives, and have a strong analytical mind.
