Are you interested in working as a 3D Designer in superconducting model magnets?

The MSC-SMT section is responsible for advancing high-field magnet technologies for future accelerators. This requires the use of superconducting materials, whose unique electrical and mechanical properties present significant manufacturing challenges, demanding innovative materials, processes, and tools. As a 3D Designer, you will be part of a team currently focused on designing, developing, validating new concepts, procedures, and tools to produce small-scale models of CERN's next-generation superconducting magnets - how exciting is that?

Your work will involve tasks such as coil winding, high-temperature heat treatment in controlled gas atmospheres, vacuum impregnation, electrical connections and instrumentation, and the mechanical assembly of delicate components.

In this role, you will collaborate on the design of magnet components and specialized tooling. Proficiency in CATIA (or a similar 3D design software) is essential.

**Who we are looking for**

Skills and/or knowledge
- Technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering;
- Technical drawing (ISO standard) and CAD Software (CATIA) proficiency;
- Understanding of mathematical and geometry;
- Knowledge of industry standards and codes;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills for effective team collaboration;
- Proactive problem-solving skills;
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintain high-quality standards on a daily basis;
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities;
- Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible for this opportunity.

**Additional Information**
Job closing date**:12 November 2024 at 23h59 CET**

Job reference: TE-MSC-SMT-2024-164-GRAE

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Target start date: 01-January-2025

**What we offer**
- A monthly stipend of **4569** Swiss Francs (net of tax)**.
- Coverage by CERN's comprehensive **health scheme** (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN **Pension Fund**.
- Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
- ** 30 days of paid leave per year**.
- On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.

**About us**
- Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success._
