The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low
- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, services, and education and training at the local, national and international level. Over 900 people from more than 80 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions.

To support our efforts in the areas of agricultural and maternal and child health within the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH), we are looking for a Statistician / Data scientist 80-100%.

You will be based in the Unit of Biostatistics and work mainly along two SNSF-funded career grant projects within the Chronic Disease Epidemiology and Household Economics and Health Systems Research Units.

**Your position**
- Creating national, regional, and global estimates of exclusive breastfeeding rates by analysing Demographics and Health Surveys (DHS) and Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) datasets
- Identifying the optimal duration of exclusive breastfeeding by pooling and re-analysing data from international birth cohort studies
- Supporting the design and implementation of studies of farmer families' health and well-being in Uganda, South Africa and Switzerland
- Co-supervising PhD and MSc students together with the PIs
- Manuscript writing and preparation

**Your profile**

**Essential skills**:

- PhD/MSc degree in biostatistics, data science, epidemiology or a related discipline
- Experience with programming in R, Stata or Python
- Experience with data management
- Good understanding of longitudinal and survival data analysis
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Proficiency in English

**Desirable skills**:

- Familiarity with Bayesian modelling, especially kernel and non-parametric methods
- Familiarity with unsupervised learning
- Interest in data visualization
- Version control with git
- Experience in epidemiology or environmental monitoring
- Understanding of causal inference
