The XR team at Facebook Reality Labs is helping people around the world come together and connect through world-class Augmented and Virtual Reality technologies. As an Engineering Manager for XR Compression, you will be a leader in our XR Graphics organization, leading the team in developing compression technologies for remote rendering to enable high fidelity immersed visual experiences on compute constrained AR/VR devices. You will work with highly cross-functional teams from graphics, streaming, video/multimedia and silicon to develop new algorithms and advanced codecs for real-time AR/VR experiences. At its heart, Meta is a research company advancing research across a broad range of topics, addressing key scientific or engineering questions or developing novel technologies. The advances will result in algorithms, product and service innovations helpful for users around the world and change how users connect, explore, and interact with one another.

**Engineering Manager, Data Compression Algorithms (XR Graphics) Responsibilities**:

- Build and lead the research and development of state of the art data compression algorithms for volumetric video, 3D data, point clouds, meshes and light fields.
- Supporting your team explore, research and incorporate machine learning techniques into the compression pipeline.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to create prototypes and take new ideas from research into production for existing and future products.
- Work with product management, architects, and our cross functional partners to define state of the art visual experiences for the AR/VR industry
- Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement
- Establish a solid project framework and excellent development processes
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to both your team members and your project peers.
- Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering, product management, product design, and management teams.
- Operate strategically and tactically. Work on strategy and help set direction while staying on top of the day to day framework development

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Bachelor in Computer Science, Data Science, or Machine Learning
- Experience designing and implementing real-time compression algorithms, video compression, signal processing and codecs for mobile or embedded processors
- Proficiency in C/C++, strong software development, optimization, and debugging skills

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Experience with video codec standards like H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, VP9, VVC, AV1
Experience developing compression algorithms for silicon
- Understanding of real-time computer graphics pipeline, GPU hardware, ML hardware, DSP and mobile rendering
- Strong understanding of image processing and AR/VR rendering
