Financial Reporting Accountant

This is an operational role, covering the daily, monthly and year-end tasks. The role requires accounting knowledge and ability to deal with different finance processes, an affinity with IT systems, and ability to read IT issues.
There is a variety between daily operations and operations related to the production of the financial statement. We are looking for a good team player as there is a lot of collaboration within the team. The person will work under the guidance of more senior accountants, however the ability to take initiative in optimizing processes/changing established processes would be appreciated.

Our client is one of the leading banking institutions in Switzerland.
On behalf of our client, Swisslinx is currently looking for a Financial Reporting Accountant based in Basel. This is a contracting role for 6 months. Ideal start date is beginning of October 2023.
Your Mission
- Produce the financial statements of the operations of the institution, its Pension Fund, its Investment Pools and its hosted organisations.
- Operate and develop enchancements for accounting processes for daily, month-end, quarter-end and year-end activities, reconciliations and other control procedures.
- Provide assistance, responding and resolving matters as part of the annual audits for the institution, its Pension Fund, its Investment Pools and hosted organisations.
- Produce, review, analyse and develop high-quality key management, financial and budget reports, including annual financial statement disclosures.
- Participate in projects to maintain and improve finance systems, business processes, internal controls and reports within the Finance section as well as in bank-wide initiatives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and provides support for various departments across the Bank.
- Maintain, develop and review finance related policies such as accounting and budgeting manuals. This includes identification of new policies and procedures as well as reviewing old policies for accuracy.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- This is a BC (Business Continuity) critical role. The job-holder will be required to perform regular testing of BC preparedness.
Your Background
- University degree in accounting, business administration or a quantitative discipline.
- A primary accounting qualification (ACCA, CPA, CA, Wirtschaftsprüfer or equivalent), with at least three years relevant post qualification experience
- Strong reporting and accounting skills.
- Knowledge of IFRS, financial instruments.
- Strong IT skills: Excellent Microsoft Excel skills is essential.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Nice to have
- Knowledge of financial management information systems, banking systems and reporting-writing tools (e.g. PeopleSoft, Findur, Business Objects, Certent CDM) are desirable.
- Background in the financial industry and banking operations
- Other major world languages desirable.
