**INTRODUCTION**:
As a preferred supplier for Roche in Basel, we are looking for an individual as

**Virology Associate**:

- (contract for 8 months with possible extension). The earliest start date is within 1 month.

**ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION**:

- designing, performing and analyzing experiments independently
- assay optimization and development
- routine culture and care of human cell cultures and cell lines
- virus propagation, purification and analysis
- PCR based analysis (real time, digital droplet, etc) of cellular and viral gene expression
- Southern blot analysis of HBV cccDNA
- Western blot based determination of protein expression levels
- ELISA based monitoring of protein levels in animal sera and cell culture supernatants
- Nucleic acid and protein extraction from cell cultures and animal tissue samples
- Assisting scientists with additional techniques with direct supervision
- Routine molecular biology work
- Quantification of biomolecules (DNA, RNA, proteins)
- data analysis and interpretation (Microsoft Excel, Graphpad PRISM, etc)
- writing of research reports derived from the performed studies (as part of a team)
- identifying novel drug targets and developing methods to exploit those targets (as part of a team)

**REQUIRED PROFILE**:

- B.S. or related degree in biology or a closely related discipline
- Two years of relevant research experience in virology
- M.S. level associates encouraged to apply
- Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry is beneficial.
- Ability to conduct modern molecular virology/biology experiments as part of a team
- Willingness to work under BSL2/3 conditions with infectious agents is required
- Experience in molecular virology
- Experience in PCR based detection of gene?
- Experience protein level determination by Western blot and ELISA based assay
- Experience in mammalian cell culture
- Experience in nucleic acid and protein extraction from cell and tissue samples and quantification
- Experience in hepatitis B virus is beneficial
- Highly collaborative team focused approach to scientific research
- Excellent communication, organization, and planning skills and an excellent command of English
- Prior hepatitis B vaccination

**Nice to Have**:

- Experience in hepatitis B virus biology
- MS or Ph.D. level degree acceptable
- Primary human hepatocyte culture experience
