As a Data Engineer at BASF Intertrade, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our data-driven decision-making capabilities within the commodity trading market. You will be responsible for aggregating data from various sources, enhancing the integration of our Commodity Trading and Risk Management system, and managing our PostgreSQL databases. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to ensuring the integrity and accessibility of our data.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective integration and data synchronization across the company's core operational systems, identifying and implementing system improvements to support cross-functional data needs.
  • Aggregate and integrate data from diverse sources, building effective data pipelines and ensuring timely data availability for decision-making.
  • Manage and optimize PostgreSQL databases to support enterprise-level applications and data workflows, ensuring performance, security, and reliability.
  • Manage Linux servers as a system administrator.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code to build or enhance applications, adhering to best practices.
  • Provide technical support and guidance, troubleshooting issues and offering solutions.
  • Monitor system performance continuously and optimize data pipelines to ensure they meet evolving business demands.
  • Oversee the integration of new technologies and systems into the data architecture.
  • Develop and implement backup and disaster recovery plans, regularly testing and maintaining these systems to ensure readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Strong technical skills with database management systems such as PostgreSQL and Oracle
  • Programming experience (incl. basic knowledge in R/Python), development frameworks, and tools. Experience in Rust or willingness to learn Rust
  • Proven experience with Linux and Git
  • Good understanding of how IT services support business processes
  • Pragmatic, flexible, curious, strategically oriented thinker, motivated to learn new topics
  • Project management skills to handle multiple projects and priorities
  • Fluent in English; German is a strong plus
