Spindle Technician

Our Spindle Technicians uphold the company’s goal to be the world leader in high-speed spindle manufacture, service, and support.

Spindle Technicians are responsible for the build, repair, and test of spindles and related products per procedures, quality standards, and production schedules, to meet or exceed our customers' and company expectations. We are looking to add to our Repair Team to help diagnose, tear down, and reassemble our spindles for top-tier customers What does a job like that look like?

Job Function:

• Obtain and review work orders, task assignments, and related materials. Gather appropriate instructions, parts lists, routings, and prints to complete the assigned work. Utilize the worldwide Product Database to obtain additional information (photos, disassembly reports, etc.) and update it as required with new information or product changes.
• Identify and prepare parts and assemblies and plan for assembly to the identified specifications.
• Inspect parts and assemblies, as necessary, for cleanliness and quality conformance. Notify the Department Manager, Inspector, Team Leader, or other appropriately assigned person in cases of non-conforming or missing parts, tools, fixtures, or documentation required to perform the job.
• Following approved work instructions, prints, checklists, routings, and established techniques, build and assemble parts and subassemblies to completed product specifications. Inspect or test products throughout the assembly process as required or stated in the specifications or instructions. Record test results and required data when needed.
• Use and maintain appropriate tools, gauges, fixtures, inspection equipment, and machinery following appropriate safety guidelines and production techniques.
• Utilize cranes, hoists, and other material movement devices following safety rules and proper instruction. Notify management of unsafe conditions or concerns.
• Assist in maintaining departmental documentation and communicate to management, team leaders, and other team members information required or helpful in performance of the work or in support of continuous improvement of the business. Participate in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay appraised of new developments.
• Work the scheduled hours needed to meet the production requirements and request time off in advance when possible. While on-the-job, utilize the appropriate time recording tools to provide work and production information as instructed.
• Utilize manual machine shop equipment (lathes, mills, drills, hones, and grinding machines) to finish or bring assemblies, parts, or spindles within tolerance as specified or required within the assembly process.
• Assist with the technical training and development of trainees or other team personnel and work with the area manager to identify any additional training needs.
• Keep abreast of new technology, work methods, safety, and other issues relating to the applicable products or work. Promote an atmosphere of continuous improvement within the team and serve as a technical resource for information on the products and techniques learned.
• Travel as needed for education or training and in-field technical support on a limited basis, if needed. (Note: International training period could be up to 1 month).
• Assist in assuring that work areas are maintained to high safety, cleanliness, and organizational standards.
• Under established guidelines, submit requisitions as required to maintain needed operational supplies and tools.

Basic Requirements:

• Basic vocational/apprenticeship training in the electromechanical field of study.
• Three to five years of on-the-job experience in a precision machining, inspection, or assembly position.
• Specialized training within the FISCHER Group, to include production assembly/repair, repair analysis, re-assembly, and product testing.
• Good oral and written communication abilities in English (ability to speak German is a plus).
• Must have excellent manual dexterity, a high mechanical aptitude, ability to read and understand complex blueprints or drawings, and a working knowledge of inspection and measuring techniques.
• Must be able to troubleshoot and repair technical problems and work well in a team environment.
