OverviewC++/Python Software Engineer for Weather API | Full Time 80-100% | Hybrid | St. Gallen, SwitzerlandAt Meteomatics we answer the question “What’s the weather like tomorrow?” by providing the most accurate weather data worldwide. Hundreds of companies and research institutions rely on our data to accelerate the energy transition, reduce environmental impact, and increase safety.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and optimize high‑performance algorithms for forecasting and processing weather data to serve millions of API queries per day (C++)Develop services and scripts (Python) for robust data acquisitionManage storage, processing, and distribution of petabytes of data (e.g., radar and satellite imagery, station observations, model forecasts)Monitor the Meteomatics Weather API in production and operate it safely 24/7Improve monitoring, automation, and self‑healing of thousands of services running flawlesslyCollaborate with a team of techies to deliver fast product‑to‑market solutionsDevelop industry‑specific solutions (e.g., renewable energy, aviation)Scale our software to handle more data sources, more queries, and higher resolution in time and spaceContribute ideas and initiatives to solve challenges in a highly self‑organized mannerQualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering, or a related field (or relevant certifications)≥2 years of experience as a software developer with strong C++ knowledgeFamiliar with Python and web technologies (HTTPS, REST APIs, WMS, WebSockets) and solid Linux knowledgeExperience in distributed systems, parallelization, and high‑performance computing is preferableEager to embrace challenges and develop innovative solutions in close collaboration with teammatesStrong communication skills; fluent in English; German or Swiss German is a plusSwiss/EU citizenship or work permit is mandatoryBenefitsTechnological innovation and cross‑functional collaboration from idea to productInternational environment with diverse backgroundsWork‑life balance: 5 weeks vacation, hybrid work (up to two days per week), fun social activities (barbecue, ski day, summer off‑site events, after‑work games)Equal OpportunityMeteomatics is an equal‑opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates.
