About HERMES

HERMES is ARIS’s first-ever bi-liquid rocketry project, aiming to design, build, and launch a cutting-edge launch vehicle in October 2025. This ambitious endeavor is supported by the development of a fully student-researched-and-developed (SRAD) EthaLOx engine and advanced engineering systems. The project is driven by innovation, teamwork, and the goal of competing in Europe’s premier rocketry competition, EuRoC.

Engine Test Bench (ETB) Subsystem

The Engine Test Bench (ETB) is a cornerstone of HERMES’s propulsion testing infrastructure, enabling the validation and benchmarking of bi-liquid rocket engines up to 15 kN of thrust. It serves as a multipurpose testing platform, supporting the development of the SRAD engines that will power HERMES I and the future of ARIS rocketry. From vertical test fires to system-level engine validation, the ETB ensures precise, safe, and reliable testing for propulsion systems.

The Position – ETB Data Acquisition and Control Systems (DACS) Engineer

As a DACS Engineerwithin the ETB subsystem, your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing data acquisition systems to measure key parameters (e.g., pressure, temperature, thrust) during engine testing.
  • Designing and programming control systems to automate testing sequences and ensure precise execution of procedures.
  • Integrating sensors, actuators, and electronic components into the test bench.
  • Analyzing collected data and ensuring its accuracy for engine benchmarking and validation.
  • Collaborating closely with other ETB team members and the HEPHAESTUS Focus Project to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Supporting testing campaigns to validate the performance and safety of the ETB.
What You Should Bring
  • Background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with diverse programming languages (e.g., Python, C++) and experience in control systems design.
  • Basic knowledge of sensor integration and data acquisition systems.
  • Interest in aerospace applications and the testing of bi-liquid propulsion systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, creativity, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Time commitment: 15–20 hours per week.
  • Availability for the next two academic years is preferred.
