Research Associate, Cancer Biology

Role Summary

We are seeking a Research Associate to join the oncology research team of Memo Therapeutics AG (MTx). In this role, you will report to a senior scientist and support oncology projects by performing hands-on laboratory work and providing technical expertise to ensure experiments run smoothly. You will work in a team validating novel drug targets and characterizing therapeutic antibodies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Laboratory experiments: Perform laboratory experiments and assays in oncology research under the guidance of senior scientists. This includes performing immuno-assays, cell-based functional assays, primary tissue preparations, and cell line maintenance.
  • Experimental planning: Design and discuss experiments with the senior scientist you will be reporting to. Independently collect and analyze data, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Record detailed results in electronic notebooks. Collaborate with scientists to interpret results and share technical observations at research discussions.
  • Team collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and scientists. Help train or mentor colleagues on lab procedures and best practices, fostering a supportive environment.
Qualifications
  • Education: Laboratory assistant degree with 8+ years of laboratory experience, or BSc or MSc degree in biology or a related field with 3+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in research or clinical settings. Candidates with a PhD will not be considered.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in the following techniques: aseptic cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, microscopy, buffer preparations, and other methods relevant to cell biology assays. Comfortable operating common lab equipment.
  • Prior experience: Experience in some of the following is desirable: functional in-vitro assays relevant for oncology research (e.g., cancer cell killing, ADC, immune cells activation, etc.); protein expression (cloning, transfection, purification, and characterization); tumor spheroids.
  • Documentation: Excellent record-keeping skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Organization: Excellent organizational and time-management skills and capable of handling multiple tasks concurrently. Proven ability to follow protocols and identify any deviations or issues.
  • Communication: Team-oriented mindset able to work collaboratively and clearly convey observations or concerns.
  • Mindset: A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn new techniques, take additional responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities and strategies.
