We are seeking a passionate Photonics Test Engineer to join the engineering team at LIGENTEC. The ideal candidate will be a passionate, collaborative team player with a strong understanding of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs), enthusiastic about further growing through hands-on photonics testing, and committed to ensuring timely project delivery.

You help LIGENTEC grow further by taking ownership of:

  • Internal and customer testing and characterization campaigns using state-of-the-art chip-level and wafer-level testing facilities.
  • Standard quality assessments of photonic integrated circuits (PCM measurements).
  • Automated testing tool operations and maintenance tracking.
  • Ensuring that testing workflows are optimized for maximum efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Assessing, generating and validating test and characterization plans.
  • Analyzing and processing measured data to generate comprehensive synthetic reports for stakeholders.
  • Providing up-to-date data on testing capabilities, daily operation tracking log, to assess the feasibility of both internal and customer project intake.
  • Establishing, owning and documenting the design rules of automated testing tools to ensure seamless integration of design-for-testability practices.
  • Training tool operators on the chip/wafer-level testers for the standard quality assessment process of photonic integrated circuits.
  • Communicating regularly with tool vendors and assessing new solutions for scaling test operations and infrastructure.

Furthermore, you support the team through:

  • Smooth integration of the testing activities in the backend-of-line.
  • Communication and collaboration between teams to support the successful execution and delivery of projects.

Requirements:

  • MSc or PhD in photonics or related fields.
  • Minimum of 1+ years hands-on experience in hands-on optical testing of passive and/or active integrated photonics components in a leading university lab or a photonics company.
  • You are passionate about measurements and keen to grow further expertise in optical and electro-optical testing.
  • Problem-solver with a results-oriented and pragmatic mindset.
  • Adaptable and thrive in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
  • Strong focus on delivering work within set timelines to ensure project success.
  • Collaborative and transparent team player and independent self-starter, capable of achieving both individual and group objectives.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Working proficiency in English.
  • Experience with remote instrument control and automation using Python to interface with automated testing equipment.
  • Experience working in a clean-room environment, ensuring proper handling and processing of sensitive materials.
  • Code versioning is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Labview is a plus.
  • Experience with photonics packaging is a plus.
  • Experience with electro-optical testing (DC and RF) is a plus.

Benefits:

  • A flexible and dynamic start-up work environment.
  • Be a member of an international, diverse, customer-focused and highly motivated team.
  • Personal responsibility in your job and the chance to grow with us.
  • Our passion to bring PICs to everyday life.

We look forward to receiving your full application using reference 2513, including 1) your CV, 2) a statement of interest (relating the position to your skills), and 3) grade or work certificates. Incomplete applications may not be considered.
