About Liom

Liom is a Swiss health-tech startup dedicated to revolutionizing the field of personalized health monitoring. Our objective is to develop the first health wearable monitoring glucose non-invasively. We will launch our wearable as a consumer product in the EU in H1’2027, and then as a medically cleared product in the US. Our team consists of over 80 staff, including more than 50 PhDs, with deep expertise in entrepreneurship, product development, and the required engineering as well as scientific disciplines. We are operating out of our lab facilities in Pfäffikon SZ, Switzerland, and our office in San Francisco, United States.


Your profile
  • M.Sc. with 8+ years or PhD with 5+ years industry experience in the design of optical and/or photonic components or systems
  • Proven track record in designing optical systems suitable for (volume) manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience with design, optimization and tolerancing of optical systems, preferably for mobile, consumer, AR/MR or sensing applications
  • Solid experience in optical design, ray optics simulation (e.g. Zemax, Code V, VirtualLab Fusion, or equivalent) and wave optics simulation (VirtualLab Fusion, Lumerical or equivalent FDTD software)
  • Profound understanding of spectrometers and its physical properties
Following set of skills are a plus
  • Experience in spectroscopy and/or spectral analysis of light
  • Prior experience in performing thermal and optical (STOP) analysis is advantageous
  • Understanding of manufacturing techniques such as wafer-level optics (WLO), injection molded optics (IMO), micro-lens (arrays), or nanoimprint lithography (NIL)
  • Understanding of light collection and collimation optics
  • Team player with the ability to integrate into a highly interdisciplinary and dynamic team, as well as working closely with spectroscopy and life science experts
  • Professional working proficiency in both English (minimum C1 level), German, French or an Asian language are a plus
  • Ability to travel internationally to suppliers, partners, and conferences (up to 10%)

Your mission
  • Specification, design and simulation of Liom Health's integrated spectrometers used in its wearable products
  • Interface with external design houses, foundries, tool vendors, industrial and academic partners
  • Setting up Liom Health’s optical design flow for mass manufacturable optical systems
  • Document design activities and report protocols and findings
  • Stay up to date with the state-of-the-art optical design methodologies, device concepts and their implementation in hardware
  • Work on a variety of projects and at the interface with other functions
  • Contributing to the company’s IP base
