Postdoctoral Researcher with prior knowledge of bacteriophages

We are an academic translational research group for phage therapy located at the Balgrist University Hospital, Zurich, led by Dr. Shawna McCallin, PhD, and Dr. Lorenz Leitner, MD, within the Department of Neuro-Urology headed by Prof. Thomas M. Kessler. Our research investigates the clinical utility of bacteriophage therapy in urinary tract infections and identifies criteria important for effective, sustainable treatment. We work closely with partners in computational biology, bioengineering, bioinformatics, data science, diagnostics, and immunology. Your responsibilitiesWe are seeking a motivated and reliable Postdoctoral Researcher (80-100%) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will:
- Develop protocols for clinical sample analysis for a randomized clinical trial (qPCR, protein quantification, etc.)
- Validate and compare phage susceptibility methods for patient enrolment and monitoring
- Lead the scientific direction of the team, ensuring the research remains innovative and aligned with current advancements.
- Educate and mentor the team on the latest scientific developments, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Supervise Ph.D. students, master students, or research assistants as needed.
- Be the main point of contact for scientific queries related to bacteriophages.
- Conduct independent and collaborative research.
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Virology, or a related field
- Prior experience working with bacteriophages
- Ability to formulate scientific hypotheses and conduct experimental work
- Ability to work effectively within a team and communicate clearly
- Comfortable using basic software tools (e.g., Microsoft Office) and statistical software tools (e.g., R)
- Communication skills in English; proficiency in German is a plus.
