Senior Python Developer – 6189 URA

This position is located in Data Products & Platforms, a team within the Data & Analytics function, which pushes the boundaries of drug discovery and development, enabling them to achieve its goals.

The Python developer will be responsible for the reimplementation of a Python library that works on top of an existing REST API of an in-house application. Several loader scripts need to be implemented as well that perform bulk operations on the REST API. This role requires industry-grade Python experience and clear communication abilities for refining the implementation based on user needs and the ability to produce solid documentation inline and in extra documents.

Additionally, the developer will create a proof of concept for an analytics tool that will use in-house LLM services to improve the recall on a concept identification and search algorithm on a Semantic RDF graph database (GraphDB).

The perfect candidate has strong proven programming skills in Python and has the ability to work independently. Additionally, the perfect candidate can manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

This role is an initial 3 months contract with chances of extension to be based in Basel, Switzerland.

Main Responsibilities
  1. (Re-) Implementation of an easy-to-use Python library that works on top of an existing REST API.
  2. (Re-) Implementation of loader scripts that perform bulk operations by using the Python library.
  3. Implementation of a PoC mapping concept algorithm with input from a GraphDB RDF graph and usage of LLM services (ChatGPT API).
  4. Document the architecture, usage, and operational procedures for future reference and maintenance.
  5. Communicating and training the scientists in using the library and scripts.
  6. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure the system meets the needs of the organization.
  7. Conduct testing and quality assurance to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the code.
Qualifications and Experience:
  1. Relevant Swiss working/residency permit or Swiss/EU-Citizenship required.
  2. Minimum level of education: Apprenticeship, preferably Bachelor, Master.
  3. Strong proven programming skills in Python 5-10 years.
  4. Understanding and ability to discuss software architecture best practices.
  5. Experience with JSON format, especially parsing and generation in Python.
  6. Experience with using REST API in Python.
  7. OPTIONAL: experience with using the ChatGPT API.
  8. OPTIONAL: experience with RDF graph databases, e.g. GraphDB.
  9. Strong communication skills in English – speaking and writing.
  10. Ability to write easy-to-understand documentation about the code.
  11. Explaining to non-engineers how to use the code.
  12. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
