Sentec is a Swiss-American medical device company specializing in respiratory care. Since its founding in 1999, the company utilizes deep-tech to develop and manufacture avant-garde technology for complex respiratory patients. Sentec provides healthcare professionals worldwide with non-invasive, accurate monitoring and effective therapeutic solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) Analysis:
    • Conduct detailed FTO analyses to assess potential infringement risks associated with new products or technologies.
    • Provide actionable recommendations to mitigate identified risks.
    • Deliver comprehensive reports summarizing findings and legal opinions.
  2. Patent and Literature Search:
    • Perform comprehensive prior art searches using patent databases (e.g., Espacenet, USPTO, WIPO, etc.).
    • Conduct literature reviews in scientific and technical publications.
    • Identify relevant patents and publications that could impact the organization’s projects and planned submissions.
  3. Support for R&D Engineers:
    • Collaborate with R&D teams to understand the technical details and innovations of new projects.
    • Assist in drafting robust claim sets that maximize patent protection and ensure compliance with patentability requirements.
    • Guide engineers in preparing detailed descriptions for patent applications.
    • Review technical documents and ensure alignment with patent laws and standards.
  4. Compliance and Competitive Intelligence:
    • Ensure adherence to intellectual property (IP) laws and guidelines.
    • Monitor competitor patent activities and technology fields and alert the team to potential conflicts or opportunities.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Educational Background:
    • Master’s degree in a technical field (e.g., engineering or physical sciences).
    • Qualification as a registered patent attorney (Swiss or European) or patent agent with a recognized patent office (e.g., USPTO, EPO, etc.)
  2. Technical Expertise:
    • Strong understanding of technical concepts related to medical device industry.
    • Proficiency in interpreting technical and scientific data.
  3. Experience:
    • At least 3 years of industry experience in the technical field as per educational background.
    • At least 5 years of experience in FTO analysis, patent searches, and patent drafting.
    • Proven track record of supporting R&D teams and facilitating patent filings.
  4. Analytical and Research Skills:
    • Expertise in using patent and non-patent literature databases.
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize large volumes of technical and legal information.
  5. Communication Skills:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with R&D engineers, legal teams, and stakeholders.
    • Ability to simplify complex legal and technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  6. Attention to Detail:
    • Exceptional precision in drafting claims and descriptions.
    • Meticulous approach to identifying potential patent conflicts.
  7. Knowledge of Patent Laws and Practices:
    • Comprehensive knowledge of patent laws and guidelines in key jurisdictions (US, EU, etc.).
    • Familiarity with international patent systems, including the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
  8. Soft Skills:
    • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
    • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
