XR Research Engineer

The Research in Orthopedic Computer Science (ROCS) at the University Hospital Balgrist and University of Zurich is offering a research engineering position as part of the PROFICIENCY project. PROFICIENCY aims to develop the next generation of surgical training simulators by integrating cutting-edge augmented reality and artificial intelligence technologies.
Your responsibilitiesYour primary responsibility is to integrate new components into the XR training simulator prototype for hip arthroplasty and prepare the simulator for larger user studies. To achieve this, you will collaborate with technical PhD students and scientists from the ROCS team. As a full-stack programmer, your tasks will include:- Integrating existing components into the simulator, such as surgical tool tracking or performance evaluation.
- Enhancing computer graphics and simulations, particularly in the depiction of anatomy and surgical procedures.
- Improving usability and the user interface.
- Conducting integration and system tests.
- Providing technical support during user studies.
- Master degree in computer science, robotics or similar
- Track record in developing VR and AR applications
- Excellent programming skills with C#, Python
- Excellent background in computer graphics with programming skills in Unity and Unreal Engine
- Experience in integrating hard- and software components into integrated prototypes
- Experience in computer vision and camera system is beneficial
