We are seeking a Research & Development Manager to join This AG, a Rayner company, at our Heerbrugg site in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

This is an excellent opportunity to manage our R&D team dedicated to Sophi, the first wireless Phaco system to offer high flexibility and mobility, providing ease of handling in the operating theatre and increased usability.

What You'll Be Doing

  1. Manage and motivate System Sophi R&D team in development of embedded systems, bus systems, mechanics, pneumatics, sensors and actors.
  2. Ensure adherence to schedule, requirements, and costs.
  3. Create and expand user requirement specification, functional requirement specification, and risk management.
  4. Prepare and conduct design reviews.
  5. Support and implement CE, FDA, and NMPA approval.
  6. Project management, controlling, monitoring, reporting, and documentation of internal and external development projects.
  7. Support and troubleshoot internal and supplier issues.
  8. Document, verify, and validate MedTech devices, instruments, and consumables.
  9. Accompany audits and approvals.
  10. Provide input for R&D budget, optimizing resource allocation for maximum impact.
  11. Partner with external stakeholders, including academic institutions, research organizations, and suppliers.
  12. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  13. Provide technical guidance and problem-solving expertise to the team.
  14. Drive the development of prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and new technologies.
  15. Prepare data for intellectual property (IP) development and protection related to R&D projects.

What Do You Need

  1. Bachelor, Master or FH preferably in electronic design or medical technology.
  2. Senior project leader.
  3. Experience in Medtech development projects, design transfer, and series production.
  4. Experience in Ophthalmology strongly preferred.
  5. As an innovative inventor type, you enjoy clever and smart solutions.
  6. You enjoy working in a team and taking on responsibility.
  7. You feel comfortable in complex systems.
  8. Languages: German and English spoken and written.
  9. Leadership experience, organizational talent.
  10. Lean production, cost saving, and process optimization.
  11. Tools: MS Project, MS Office, ERP and understanding for C++, Qt, GitLab, Linux, CAD, PLM Windchill.
