Genf, Schweiz CERN Vollzeit

OverviewAt CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world\'s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter that are brought to collide at close to the speed of light to gain clues about how particles interact and to reveal the fundamental laws of nature.Introduction: Are you ready to work hands-on with the magnets that keep CERN’s accelerators running? The Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) group of the Technology Department (TE) designs, constructs and measures superconducting and normal conducting magnets for the CERN accelerator complex. The group also integrates magnets into the accelerator complex, designs and procures magnet cryostats, and performs magnet quality control. It provides operational support for magnets, magnet performance and related devices such as current leads. Within MSC, the Normal Conducting Magnets (NCM) section is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning, maintenance and upgrade of normal conducting magnets for present and future CERN accelerators and beam lines. This is a chance to join a collaborative, international team, work with unique technologies, and contribute directly to the reliable performance of the world\'s largest accelerator complex.ResponsibilitiesAs an electromechanical technician in the NCM section, you will participate in the consolidation of normal conducting accelerator magnets installed in the CERN complex, in the assembly of new magnets and in reception tests of new units or components from industry.Participate in the refurbishment, manufacture and testing of normal conducting magnets in CERN workshops, including the compilation of related quality control documents.Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance interventions on normal conducting magnets installed in the CERN accelerator complex.Contribute to the design, development and procurement of dedicated tools, equipment and components required for refurbishment activities and the production of new normal conducting magnets.QualificationsTechnical certificate or general secondary education or equivalent relevant experience in the field of electromechanical engineering or a related field.ExperienceThe following proven experience is required for this post:Manufacture and assembly of electromechanical devices.Carrying out corrective and preventive maintenance of electromechanical devices.Reading and understanding mechanical and electrical drawings. In addition, it would be an advantage to have experience in the following:Conventional mechanical machining.TIG / MIG welding, and ideally brazing techniques.Mechanical and / or electrical measurements.Technical competenciesConstruction, test and installation of electromechanical equipment and systems.Operation and maintenance of electromechanical equipment and systems.Assembly of mechanical structures and equipment.Knowledge and application of joining techniques: welding, brazing, soldering.Behavioural competenciesWorking in teams: contributing to a positive atmosphere in the team through an optimistic and constructive attitude; addressing issues; working well in groups and readily fitting into a team; participating fully and taking an active role in team activities.Demonstrating accountability: working conscientiously and reliably; delivering on promises.Achieving results: having a structured and organised approach towards work; being able to set priorities and plan tasks with results in mind.Demonstrating flexibility: readily accepting new tasks or work/projects.Language skillsSpoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.Additional InformationEligibility and closing date: Diversity has been an integral part of CERN\'s mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success. We welcome applications from all Member States and Associate Member States. This vacancy will be filled as soon as possible, and applications should normally reach us no later than 29.10.2025 at 23:59 CEST.Employment ConditionsContract type: Limited duration contract (5 years). Subject to certain conditions, holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.Working Hours: 40 hours per weekThis position involves:Work in Radiation Areas.Interventions in underground installations.A valid driving licence.Stand-by duty, when required by the needs of the Organization.Use of certain mobile work equipment or equipment used for lifting loads (lifting equipment, bridge cranes, aerial work platforms, etc.) requiring a driving authorization.Operations on electrical installations or in their vicinity (over 1000 Volt AC or 1500 Volt DC) requiring a specific authorization.Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.Job grade: 3-4Job reference: TE-MSC-NCM-2025-201-LDBenchmark Job Title: Electromechanical Technician #J-18808-Ljbffr
