Student Assistant in Computer Science

The Center for Law & Economics at ETH Zurich conducts empirical and experimental research in law & economics. At the Center, Professor Stefan Bechtold is looking for a student assistant with experience in web scraping, database management, and coding to assist in research projects on regulating digital platforms and the digital economy.
Job DescriptionYou are a student in computer science, data science, statistics, economics, or a related discipline. You are interested in working on projects that focus on competition policy, privacy, consumer protection, innovation, and online contracts. Our projects involve scraping content from websites, storing the content in databases, and analyzing the content using statistical and natural-language processing tools. Your tasks include, inter alia, maintaining and adapting web scraping infrastructure and the related databases; working with LLMs over APIs; managing GitHub repositories.
Profile- You have proven experience with Python, PostgreSQL, web scraping (with Beautiful Soup), as well as familiarity working on the Linux command line and Git/GitHub. Familiarity with R and the Python package pandas is also helpful.
- You are a registered student at a university in Zurich or nearby.
- You are at a stage of your studies where, during the semester, you can dedicate 10 to 15 hours per week (potentially more outside of the semester).
- You are interested in designing and conducting interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with a team of legal and economics scholars.
We are an interdisciplinary research group at the intersection of law, economics, and computer science working on large collaborative projects on regulating the digital economy. We maintain close contact with computer science research groups at ETH Zurich and beyond. Our offices are in the city center of Zurich, and our working language is English.
