About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Automation Engineer to join our team in the trainline industry. Based in Basel and Zurich, this role offers a hybrid work model, allowing for a balance of remote and onsite work. You will play a key role in developing and maintaining automation systems that enhance railway operations, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain automation systems for railway operations.
  • Design and implement PLC-based control systems, monitoring tools, and testing frameworks.
  • Work with SCADA and HMI systems for real-time train monitoring and control.
  • Ensure seamless communication between railway automation systems using industrial protocols such as Modbus, CAN, Profibus, PROFINET, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Support predictive maintenance and real-time monitoring using IoT, sensors, and embedded systems.
  • Implement automated testing tools (e.g., Selenium, Robot Framework) for railway software and hardware validation.
  • Ensure compliance with railway safety standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129).
  • Integrate cloud solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for big data analysis and AI-driven automation.
  • Troubleshoot automation-related issues and drive continuous improvements in railway operations.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in automation engineering, preferably in the railway or transport industries.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider) and SCADA/HMI systems.
  • Strong understanding of railway signaling systems (ETCS, CBTC, interlocking systems).
  • Knowledge of rolling stock automation, including traction control, braking systems, and energy management.
  • Experience in scripting and programming (Python, C/C++, MATLAB, Java) for automation and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with robotics, actuators, and motion control systems used in train maintenance.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid setup and collaborate across multiple locations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on efficiency, diagnostics, and predictive maintenance.

What We Offer

Competitive salary: CHF 110,000 - 130,000
