Nanosurf is a fast-growing innovator in the nanotechnology market. We develop, manufacture and market state-of-the-art scanning probe microscopes for imaging and manipulation of surfaces at the nanometer range. We work at the limit of what is physically possible and develop all the mechanical, electronic, optical and software components necessary for best-in-class instruments.
As part of our company's growth and in response to market demands, we are expanding our 'Industrial Solutions' department. This team develops and produces high precision positioning systems for a variety of sizes, supporting a wide range of measurement technologies such as AFM, interferometry, optical microscopes and more.
We are looking for a System Engineer to support our teams in the development of highly complex measurement machines.
As a System Engineer you will be part of the team in charge of the development of these projects and handle all activities in order to deliver them according to customer requirements and contractual delivery dates.

Activities
- Oversee the end-to-end development process of new systems, evaluating performance from both mechanical and electronic perspectives. Ensure that products effectively solve problems in a simple, elegant manner, while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
- Perform rigorous simulations and evaluations to verify the performance, reliability, durability, and safety of the hardware
- Presenting and defending the studies carried out during project technical reviews, in collaboration with customers or internally.
- Create detailed hardware documentation, including specifications, assembly instructions, and testing protocols
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Project Managers, Engineers, Scientists, and other colleagues in a cross-functional team.
- Take on a technical role in discussions with customers to evaluate the feasibility and challenges of proposed solutions, while also assessing the risks and opportunities associated with the project.
- Establish component specifications, carry out mechanical designs using 3D software, assembly layouts and bills of materials.
- Work closely with Software engineers to integrate steering logic into mechanical structures
- Build, lead and mentor a team of hardware engineers
- Provide expert guidance to product managers and executives for strategic decision making
- Produce functional system documentation for machines, including functional specification documents (FS) and design documents (DS).
- Monitor and support the commissioning during machine assembly and fine-tuning, updating documentation accordingly.
- Create and maintain documentation, guidelines, and best practices to streamline knowledge sharing
- Improve design standards and processes through active participation in design reviews
- Acting as an expert in the field, sharing knowledge and mentoring junior team members.
Your profile
- Master’s degree in engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Robotics, or equivalent field.
- A minimum of three years of industry experience, (PhD experience as a plus)
- Proficient in CAD software for mechanical design (Solideworks as a plus)
- Familiar with actuators, material compatibilities, manufacturing processes and standards for producing compatible 3D parts, as well as contemporary manufacturing technologies.
- Strong knowledge of design fundamentals including safety
- Ability to take ownership of the design process and work as a self-directed member of the team
- Experience in Simulation software for mechanical properties is a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing technical teams, partners, and relationships with customers
- A passion for solving problems and being challenged
- A commitment to constant learning and personal growth, both individually and with the team
- Scanning Probe Microscopy experience is a plus.
- English spoken, read and written.
- German as a plus
