Accounts Assistant

Mercanta is a coffee importer, supplying roasters around the world with the very best coffees. Founded in 1996 in a small office in Southwest London, we now source a huge variety of outstanding coffees from 20 producing countries and sell into over 40 consuming ones from our offices in Berlin, Glasgow, London, Dubai, Seattle, and Singapore.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our small Mercanta team in the office in Kingston to support the Finance Controller.

Role

This is a varied finance/accounts role supporting the Financial Controller for Mercanta. The FC supports the Mercanta business and provides financial information and reports to the ECOM Group to provide consolidated reports.

Main Duties

1. Be part of a small team and support the Company’s Finance function.
2. Update and maintain financial data using SAP.
3. Manage online banking including foreign currency contracts, payments to suppliers both local and overseas, and chasing overdue accounts.
4. Maintain the Company’s cash flow position up to date at all times.
5. Apply for import loans with the bank, cancel loans, and oversee cash management on a day-to-day basis.
6. Conduct daily/weekly bank reconciliations including a number of foreign currency accounts.
7. Assist with stock management and keep an accurate record of incoming shipments.
8. Develop and implement new administrative systems to improve efficiency.
9. Other duties will include cover for any incoming deliveries and visitors to the office.

Skills & Experience Required

1. At least a Maths A Level or equivalent.
2. Ideally some relevant work experience within a finance or office environment.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication and people skills.
4. Practical and accurate skills in Microsoft Office.
5. Ability to use own initiative and work within teams as appropriate.
6. Good analytical skills.
