In the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the research group of Prof. Rebecca Buller invites applications for a 4‑year full‑time (100 %) PhD position funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation on an innovative project in chemical biology, enzyme engineering and biocatalysis.Your RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our team and contribute to cutting‑edge research in biocatalysis and enzyme engineering. The group focuses on developing biocatalysts that enhance sustainability and efficiency of chemical and pharmaceutical synthesis, including designing enzymes for new‑to‑nature reactions and exploiting catalytic promiscuity through rational design, computational tools and directed evolution.Essential QualificationsMaster’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a closely related fieldStrong foundation in organic chemistry and enthusiasm for enzyme catalysisAbility to work in a teamDesirable ExperienceSynthetic chemistry and reaction optimizationSite‑directed mutagenesis, molecular cloning and protein expression/purificationEnzyme engineeringAnalytical method development (e.g., HPLC, GC, MS)Protein bioinformatics and computational (bio)chemistryWhat We OfferState‑of‑the‑art laboratory and university infrastructureWorking in an international, supportive and inspiring environmentOpportunities to attend national and international conferences, teaching and coachingApplicationWe look forward to receiving your application by email to Rebecca.Buller@unibe.ch.
