We aim to prevent, stop, and cure diseases, making healthcare accessible for everyone.OpportunityAs an Automation Engineer in Pharma Technical Development Synthetic Molecules (PTDC), you will lead industrial automation and digitalization, driving integration of cutting‑edge technologies from the lab to the plant. You will design and implement innovative automation concepts to standardize and automate data transfer, boosting productivity and operational efficiency across the technical development lifecycle.Lead digital transformation: Drive digitalization and industrial automation within PTDC, implementing state‑of‑the‑art technologies.Integrate Lab‑to‑Plant concept: Strategically merge automation and digitalization platforms for seamless workflows between laboratory environments and manufacturing plants.Define automation strategy: Align and shape a comprehensive automation concept to automate and standardize data extraction from equipment and system transfer.Process automation & workflow optimization: Champion initiatives to automate manufacturing and/or laboratory processes, optimizing workflows and ensuring long‑term digital resilience.Drive paperless transition: Lead the shift towards a fully paperless workplace in collaboration with Data Scientists and Real‑Time Monitoring experts.PTDC automation champion: Support the introduction of new functionalities (e.g., new modules, continuous manufacturing skids) into facilities and labs.Adapt & improve: Continuously adapt automation systems to meet evolving operational needs and technological advancements.Enhance collaboration & productivity: Optimize key operational systems to improve cross‑functional productivity throughout development and manufacturing.QualificationsWe are looking for a seasoned Automation Engineer with a deep background in the pharmaceutical industry and a passion for digital transformation projects.PhD or Master’s degree in Industrial Automation Engineering or related field, and 5–10 years of automation experience in pharma.Proven experience in digital transformation, systems optimisation, and project management with advanced automation and data flow optimisation skills.Familiarity with drug substance technical development, quality control lab processes, advanced lab automation, and GMP information systems.Experience in moving organisations to fully integrated digital automation systems, ensuring data integrity.Track record of leading cross‑functional, complex projects to enhance operational efficiency and collaboration.Strategic thinking and ability to visualise and integrate complex digital ecosystems.Excellent communication skills in German and English (other languages a plus).About RocheA healthier future drives us to innovate.
