The Geometry Group in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a:

PhD Position in Differential Geometry (100%)

Place of work: Brig, Switzerland

Start of work: Flexible, at the latest by September 1, 2025

Your tasks:

  1. Conduct research and write a PhD thesis in the field of differential geometry under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thomas Mettler
  2. Support undergraduate mathematics teaching through tutorial sessions, exercise groups and grading of student exercise sheets
  3. Present research at national and international conferences and participate in academic workshops

Your profile:

  1. MSc in Mathematics
  2. Strong background in differential geometry and/or analysis
  3. Familiarity with one of the following research areas is an advantage: projective differential geometry, Riemann surfaces/complex geometry, calculus of variations, Cartan geometries
  4. Fluent English required (teaching language)
