PhD Position: Modelling materials with local lattice instabilities
Vor 7 Tagen
The research group of Prof. Simonov at ETH Zurich is seeking a motivated PhD candidate interested in developing computational approaches for understanding disorder in crystalline materials.
Project backgroundOur research focuses on crystals exhibiting electronic disorder, where degenerate electron configurations lead to fascinating physical phenomena such as colossal magnetoresistance and polaronic transport. This project aims to develop novel computational frameworks to understand and predict the structure of such materials.
Job descriptionYou will develop computational methods to analyze crystallographic data and model electronic structures in complex materials. The work involves creating code for processing diffuse scattering data, performing density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and developing coarse-grained models for large-scale atomic simulations.
Profile- PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field
- Strong programming skills required
- Experience with computational modeling of materials is advantageous
- Background in crystallography or solid-state physics is a plus
- Your career with impact: Become part of ETH Zurich, which not only supports your professional development but also actively contributes to positive change in society.
- We are actively committed to a sustainable and climate-neutral university.
- You can expect numerous benefits, such as public transport season tickets and car sharing, a wide range of sports offered by the ASVZ, childcare, and attractive pension benefits.
