About the role

Join Distran in pioneering the future of ultrasonic imaging and leak detection with the world's first ultrasound camera

As an R&D Scientist specializing in microphone arrays and acoustic imaging, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing advanced signal processing algorithms to enhance the performance of our cutting-edge technology. You will drive key advancements in beamforming, quantitative ultrasound imaging, and sensor calibration, making gas leak detection more accurate, faster, and easier. Your contributions will play a crucial role in evolving our technology to the next level.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Algorithm Development: Design and develop state-of-the-art algorithms for array signal processing, beamforming, and quantitative acoustic imaging. Your work will optimize performance within the hardware’s computational constraints.
  2. Calibration and Experimentation: Refine and improve calibration models and methodologies for microphone arrays and optics, ensuring the best performance for our ultrasound cameras. Design and conduct experiments to validate these algorithms using real-world data.
  3. Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with software, hardware, and application engineers to integrate new features into production and improve overall system performance.
  4. Documentation and IP Contribution: Thoroughly document your research findings and contribute to patent applications, ensuring your work enhances our intellectual property portfolio.
  5. Technology Watch: Keep up with the latest innovations and advances in signal processing, beamforming, and acoustic imaging, by reviewing literature and staying informed about industry trends to inspire future research.

Your profile

  1. Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Deep expertise in applied mathematics and signal processing, with specialization in one or more of the following areas: phased array signal processing, wave signal processing, Fourier analysis, beamforming algorithms, ultrasound/acoustic imaging, computational imaging.
  3. Strong proficiency in algorithm development, optimization, and numerical computing.
  4. Expertise in Python programming and experience with scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas.
  5. Experience in data-centric software development, building numerical libraries, and working with version control systems like Git.
  6. Strong problem-solving skills with a creative, solutions-oriented mindset. Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  7. Fluent English (spoken and written).
  8. Location is Zurich, Switzerland (onsite) or Greater Nice Area, France (remote).

Optional qualifications:

  1. Familiarity with Fourier optics or ray tracing techniques.
  2. Knowledge of Linux operating systems.
  3. Experience with deep learning libraries (e.g., PyTorch, JAX).
