Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opening for the position of Climate & Environment Intern at the United Nations Foundation. This remote internship is designed for individuals who are eager to gain hands-on experience in climate diplomacy, environmental policy, and strategic communications. The intern will work closely with our Climate & Environment team to support a range of activities, including research, policy analysis, event management, and communications. The internship will run from September 16, 2024, to December 6, 2024, providing a comprehensive learning experience and the chance to make meaningful contributions to our climate and environmental programs.

Location: Remote
Duration: September 16, 2024 – December 6, 2024
Compensation: $17.50 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an associate or bachelor’s degree program; $20 per hour for those currently enrolled in a graduate program.
Hours: Up to 29 hours per week

The Role

As a Climate & Environment Intern, you will be an integral part of our Climate & Environment team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on high-impact projects that address global climate and environmental issues. You will gain valuable experience in climate diplomacy, policy research, and strategic communication while contributing to UNF’s mission of advancing environmental sustainability and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

Your role as a Climate & Environment Intern will involve a diverse set of tasks and responsibilities aimed at supporting the UNF’s climate and environmental initiatives. These responsibilities include:

  1. Research and Monitoring:
    • Conduct In-Depth Research: Collaborate with the Climate & Environment team to gather and analyze data on international climate and environmental policies. Your research will help inform the development of strategies and initiatives that address key environmental challenges.
    • Synthesize Key Findings: Monitor developments in climate diplomacy and environmental policy. Summarize and synthesize key findings to provide actionable insights and recommendations for the team.
    • Stay Updated: Keep abreast of the latest trends, reports, and news related to climate and environmental issues. Ensure that your contributions are informed by current and relevant information.
  2. Support for UNF’s Initiatives:
    • Assist in Research and Preparation: Support UNF’s work in areas such as food and climate, climate resilience, and ocean and shipping. Conduct research and prepare materials on current and emerging issues to support our projects and advocacy efforts.
    • Develop Materials: Contribute to the creation of materials for internal and external audiences. This includes drafting reports, policy briefs, and communication materials that effectively convey complex information.
  3. Event Management:
    • Organize and Execute Events: Assist in organizing and executing both in-person and virtual meetings and events. Your support will ensure that events run smoothly and effectively advance UNF’s climate and environmental objectives.
    • Coordinate Logistics: Help with logistical arrangements for events, including coordinating with speakers, managing registrations, and preparing event materials.
  4. Team Support:
    • Develop Materials for Leadership: Support the team in preparing materials for UNF leadership and other teams. This may involve drafting briefings, presentations, and other documents.
    • Provide General Assistance: Assist with various tasks and projects as needed. Your role will involve providing support to different aspects of the team’s work.
  5. Stay Informed:
    • Monitor Climate and Environmental News: Stay updated on the latest developments in climate and environmental news. This knowledge will inform your work and ensure that your contributions are relevant and timely.
Required Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this internship, candidates must meet the following qualifications and possess the necessary skills:

  1. Educational Background: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting program or be recent graduates (within 8 months of graduation) from a college or university. This includes those pursuing or holding an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or graduate degree.
  2. Communication Skills: Demonstrated strong communication skills are essential. Candidates should be able to clearly articulate ideas and effectively convey information in written and verbal formats.
  3. Interest and Knowledge: A genuine interest in and knowledge of climate and environmental policy is crucial. Previous experience or coursework related to environmental issues will be advantageous.
  4. Attention to Detail: The ability to work with precision in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities is required. Attention to detail is essential for producing high-quality work.
  5. Interpersonal Skills: Strong professional interpersonal skills are necessary for interacting effectively with team members and external partners. The ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive relationships is important.
  6. Technical Requirements: Candidates must have access to a personal laptop computer and reliable Internet connection to perform the duties of this remote role.
  7. Work Authorization: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States to be eligible for this internship.
