LIGENTEC All-Nitride (AN) technology enables our customers to develop their products in the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Photonic Design Engineer - 2416DE
TasksWithin LIGENTEC’s engineering team, our mission is be to bring our integrated photonics platform to the next level, building on its world-class passive photonics and extending the functionality with active component integration:
Role and Responsibilities
You are part of an interdisciplinary project team that drives the development of new and improved functionalities on Ligentec’s integrated photonics platform. You:
Own the design, simulation and lay-out integrated photonic components and circuits for customer-driven and strategic roadmap projects:
- Advanced passive components leveraging Ligentec’s SiN platform for functionalities including polarization management, low loss interfaces, and spectral filters.
- Active component integration via hybrid- and heterogeneous assembly including photodiode and modulator technology.
Drive our design and layout methodology for new technology development:
- Develop early-stage process-design kits enabling engagement with customers in the R&D stage.
- Optimize design-and layout code reusability, adopting industry best practices.
- Contribute to the development of our device, fabrication and test database.
Furthermore, you:
- Interact with the characterization team, collect capabilities, design test structures, and support in test planning and data analysis (design for testability).
- Interact with the process team and yield engineering, collect capabilities and requirements, design test structures (design for manufacturability).
- Contribute to mask assembly and tape-out management when needed.
- Provide concise and clear documentation and reporting.
- MSc or PhD in photonics or related fields.
- Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in integrated optics design, in a top environment, preferably industrial.
- Passionate about programming and data analysis, comfortable using Python and git.
- Photonic layout experience (e.g. IPKISS, GDSFactory) and design experience (e.g. Lumerical).
- Solid understanding of different photonic material platforms.
- Experience with design of active components (III-V) and heterogeneous integration is a plus.
- Experience with setting up design and layout databases is a plus.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and capable to deal with changing priorities.
- Excellent communication and reporting.
- Ability to work independently and with remote teams.
- Working proficiency in English.
