The Position:
We are seeking a qualified, professional educator with a successful track record teaching Secondary Social Studies, in particular for grades 6 to 8. An ideal candidate will be flexible and excited to cooperate with a team of dynamic, professional Social Studies teachers to plan, deliver, and assess student-centered curriculum in a diverse international school setting. They will hold high expectations for students and will be comfortable differentiating content and instruction in all courses. Applicants with experience working with an EAL population and who can contribute to the ZIS co-curricular program will be preferred.
Experience in leading curriculum development will be a distinct advantage as the ideal candidate will also be able to take on the role as Assistant Head of Social Studies, grades 6 through 12. Specific responsibilities include creating annual goals for curriculum to enhance horizontal and vertical alignment, universal design for learning, and concept-based inquiry, as well as managing unit revision processes for teaching teams in grades 6-8.
Teacher applicants should have at least 3 years of previous teaching experience, preferably at an international school. Applicants must furnish evidence of:
- Teaching license including specialism
- Documented record of excellence in teaching
- BA / BSC or equivalent university degree
- Understanding of Middle School philosophy and best practice
- Understanding of concept-based curriculum and instruction
- Learner-centered focus
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
- Ability to differentiate for diverse learning needs
- Teamwork, collaboration, and active participation in school life
