By integrating leading-edge technology with a dynamic, activity-based workspace, the facility will support seamless connection and collaboration within and across teams and functions. Schachen Biotech provides Biologics Drug Substance manufacturing for Early Phase Clinical Supply and Technology Innovation implementation into the pipeline.
The Head of Capacity Planning has overall responsibility for determining the production capacity needed by the organization to meet dynamic needs of the pipeline. Understands how the business operates and plans for future capacity and staffing requirements. The head of capacity planning undertakes planning activities to ensure utilization targets are met and optimizes continuous improvement project implementations, material stock level strategy. She or he ensures a culture of self-direction, empowerment and accountability, while providing the support necessary to team members working in a widely cross-functional organization. This role will support Groups across the Rahway Biologics Development Center, Dunboyne Site and Schachen Biotech, with additional accountability functionally
The primary activities include but are not limited to the following activities:
Leadership
- Sets Operational Excellence targets in line with business priorities and develops long-term plans across the Operating Units in Dunboyne BioNX and Schachen Biotech
- Develops the organization and culture (including values and behaviors such as empowerment, diversity and inclusion, accountability, trust, open communication)
- Drives a talent agenda leads people processes through recruitment, training, coaching and performance management to meet all operational requirements sustaining both global and local competitiveness and diversity
- Establishes robust succession plans for operations and the site. Actively drives talent retention.
- Builds and sustains strong networks in and outside the organization.
- Lead teams responsible for Continuous Improvement, and Project Management.
Management
- Managing and own the entire life cycle of the capacity plan and Level 1 Schedule across the Rahway Biologics Development Center, Dunboyne Site and Schachen Biotech, coordinating with the both the Operations and Technology and Engineering Units to maintain an integrated schedule. Manage deviations from the plan that have financial impact
- Develop and Own the Equipment Capacity Model and the Staffing Capacity Model, making recommendations where targeted investments will be necessary to meet pipeline demands.
- Interface with both the Research and Manufacturing capacity planning teams and Value Chain Management, to balance needs of the network within the facilities.
- Manage the functional Staffing Model Strategy, for both internal and external workforce support – tracking recruiting efforts and their impact on the capacity model.
- Own maintaining the functional Operating Expense Budget in alignment with the Level 1 schedule.
- Coordinate across the network for optimizing how we manage safety stock of raw materials and single use components in alignment with the Level 1 Schedule.
- Contributes in his/her role within overarching business planning process driving towards fully harmonized technology across sites.
- Identify and drive improvement initiatives that optimize capacity and ensure best return on investment without adding risk or disruption
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or equivalent in biology, chemical engineering, or a related discipline with at least 12 years or master's degree (M.S.) with at least 10 years previous experience in a relevant position in GMP manufacturing in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry
- Experience in drug substance manufacturing using mammalian cell culture, including upstream and downstream processing
- Excellent analytical skills, and detail orientate
- Experience of building capacity/forecasting models and plans and undertaking complex analysis to create information .
- Working knowledge of cGMP regulations
- Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills
- Excellent oral / written communication skills in English (C1), and German (B2)
