Result of Service

EXPECTED OUTPUTS AND TIMELINES

1. Monthly Progress Reports: The consultant shall submit monthly progress reports detailing the activities undertaken, connections made, challenges encountered, and any notable insights or developments. These reports shall be submitted at the end of each month.

2. Identification of Workshop Candidates: As a critical milestone, the consultant is required to provide a shortlist of twelve (12) potential candidates for the songwriting workshop in Jamaica. This list should include candidate profiles, samples of their work, and a ranking with the reasoning for their position. The list must be provided by 18 December 2023.

3. Final Report: The consultant shall deliver a comprehensive final report summarizing the outcomes of the consultancy. This report should include a list of connected individuals, their profiles, recommendations for future engagement, and any additional insights gained during the consultancy. The report should also lay the groundwork for potential UK industry links for Caribbean companies and their musical products. The report should also have results monitoring for the Song Writing Camp, information on the materials produced at the camp and deals/leads generated from these. The final report must be submitted by 4 March 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Kingdom Trade Partnerships Programme (UKTP) is designed to ensure countries maximize benefits of Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs). The UK Trade Partnerships Programme is funded by the Government of the UK through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). The programme currently runs until 31 March 2024.

In the CARIFORUM Region, UKTP supports the creative industries, both in music and film. As part of this support, the programme is organizing a Song Writing Camp in the Caribbean to create content to be published and/or disseminated in the UK. The camp seeks to connect regional artists with professionals in the music industry in the UK.

OBJECTIVE: This programme will increase exports under the agreements by increasing awareness of firms and institutions on how to access the UK/EU markets and better identifying trade obstacles across all Official Development Assistance eligible EPA countries. It will also build the ability of targeted firms/products to export to UK/EU markets in eight selected country pilots.

A UK-based consultant is sought to identify, seek, and connect with musicians, songwriters, publishers, and A&R (Artist and Repertoire) professionals who are actively involved in the Urban Genre of music within the United Kingdom. The objective is to build relationships, facilitate collaboration opportunities, and expand our network within this segment of the music industry, with a view to build bridges between the Caribbean artists and the UK markets.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The consultant will work under the direct guidance of the UKTP Associate Administrative Officer and the overall supervision of the UKTP Programme Manager.

The consultant will be responsible for the following duties:

Research and Identification:

• Conduct comprehensive research to identify UK-based musicians, songwriters, publishers, and A&R professionals operating in the Urban Genre.

• Create a database of potential contacts, including their contact details and relevant information about their work and background.



Networking and Relationship Building:

• Attend, if needed, relevant industry events, conferences, or gatherings to network and establish connections within the Urban music scene in the UK.

• Foster and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure a sustainable network for future collaborations.

Outreach and Connection:

• Develop a tailored outreach strategy to connect with the identified individuals.

• Initiate contact through email, social media, and other appropriate channels.

• Schedule and conduct virtual meetings or interviews to establish rapport and assess their profiles.

Identification of Workshop Participants:

• Identify and recommend twelve (12) UK-based musicians and songwriters within the Urban Genre who would be suitable candidates to participate in a songwriting workshop scheduled to take place in Jamaica at the end of January 2024.

• Provide a shortlist of potential candidates, including their profiles, samples of their work, and a brief explanation of why they are suitable for the workshop. The shortlist will be used to select eight candidates to attend the workshop.

Song Writing Camp logistics support:

• Support the collection of essential documentation from the selected candidates for the songwriting workshop in Jamaica. The task will include:

a) Passport Verification – Ensure that each selected candidate possesses a valid passport with an expiration date that extends beyond the workshop dates. Collect scanned or photocopies of the passports for verification purposes.

b) Visa Requirements – Assist selected candidates in determining their specific visa requirements for entry into Jamaica and provide guidance on the visa application process as needed. Collect copies of visa approvals or relevant documentation.

c) Full Contact Details – Gather comprehensive contact information from the selected candidates, including their primary and secondary contact numbers, email addresses, and emergency contact details.

d) Banking Information for DSA – Collaborate with the selected candidates to collect the necessary banking information required and providing them with the necessary forms to this effect. Ensure the candidates provide the form duly filled, along with attestations from their bank to corroborate the details provided in the form.

Post Song Writing Camp follow up and reporting:

• Provide regular progress reports to the hiring organization, including updates on connections made, insights gathered, and challenges encountered.

• Deliver a final report summarizing the outcomes of the consultancy. The final report should cover aspects on the following results:

a) Songs/demos produced: The consultant will be required to provide a list of songs/demos produced at the songwriting camp in Jamaica. This should include information on the song's development, collaboration details, and any notable milestones achieved during the songwriting process.

b) Deals/agreements established following the Song Writing Camp: The consultant shall report on any deals, collaborations, partnerships, or agreements established as a direct result of the connections made during the songwriting camp. These deals may include publishing agreements, recording contracts, licensing agreements, or any other relevant industry partnerships.

c) Monitoring: The consultant will be responsible for conducting monitoring of results post-Song Writing Camp. This includes assessing the effectiveness of outreach and networking efforts, tracking the progress of the Song Writing Camp participants in month following the camp, and providing quantifiable results/statistics for reporting on the Song Writing Camp and related activities.

The Consultant is obliged to provide full access to ITC external and internal auditors to documents and information. In addition, the contractor shall comply with any audit undertaken in line with the financial regulations and rules of the United Nations.

Copyright Clause: The Consultant has to ensure that s/he has obtained the necessary permissions with regard to intellectual property rights required to perform his/her services under this consultancy contract and for the subsequent dissemination by ITC in any form. Documentary proof is to be submitted to ITC. Should any license fee be due for the use of copyrighted materials of third parties, the Consultant shall request prior written permission from ITC. S/he has further to ensure to obtain accreditation to event(s), if required.

Qualifications/special skills

Undergraduate degree (BA/BSC or other).

Extensive relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the university degree.

A minimum of 5 years of demonstrable and relevant work experience in within the music industry.

Proven experience in talent scouting, artist management, industry networking, record label management or similar.

Extensive experience in talent scouting, artist management, or related roles within the music sector.

Exceptional networking and communication skills.

Proven ability to initiate and maintain professional relationships.

Self-motivated and capable of working independently.

Access to necessary resources and tools for research and outreach.

Languages

Advanced knowledge of English is required.

Knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
