Software Engineer, Search Ads Quality

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google's needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.

Ads Quality is part of Search Ads - the text ads shown on Google Search which power the majority of Google's revenue and connect millions of businesses to customers.

In this role, you will leverage the latest advances in language modeling to increase the quality and reach of ad candidates. You bring your understanding of the technology capabilities of Google's LLMs and match them with the product opportunities that can be unlocked through the tech.

Users come first at Google. Nowhere is this more important than on our Advertising and Commerce team: we believe that ads and commercial information can be highly useful to our users if that information is relevant to what our users wish to find or do. Advertisers worldwide use Google Ads to promote their products; publishers use AdSense to serve relevant ads on their website; and business around the world use our products (like Google Shopping, and Google Wallet) to support their online businesses and bring users into their offline stores. We are constantly innovating to deliver the most effective advertising and commerce opportunities of tomorrow.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in Python or C++, and with data structures or algorithms.
  • Experience processing natural language and large language models. Experience with algorithms that use deep learning techniques and large data sets to understand, summarize, generate, and predict new content.
  • Experience working with Google's Machine Learning stack (Tensorflow, SAX, GeMax, TPUs, etc).
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
    Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • End-to-end experience launching applied ML, NLP or LLM projects.
  • Own projects end-to-end from initial idea to design, analysis, and implementation.
  • Perform model training, evaluation, and deployment to solve business-critical problems.This includes exploration of new model architectures, augmenting existing training data, finding better evaluation methods and feedback signals, and identifying headroom opportunities.
  • Understand production systems, visualize, monitor, and optimize performance.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest tools and research in the field.
