Research assistant – doctoral student in the field of "Future of Work & Generative AI" (m/f/d)

100% (limited from March 1st, 2024)



Your tasks
  • Design and implementation of empirical studies in the laboratory (especially quantitative) and field (especially qualitative) on generative AI systems (e.g. chatbots or co-pilot plugins) with special consideration of large language models in the area of ​​knowledge work
  • Independent and collaborative project work in an interdisciplinary, dynamic team
  • Research on a fundamental topic with high practical relevance
  • Collaboration with renowned research institutions, startups and large companies
  • Support for innovative teaching formats, especially with regard to the user-centered development of digital services

your profile
  • Master's degree with a grade average of at least 5.0 (equivalent to 2.0 in D and AT) in psychology / business administration / business informatics / industrial engineering / data science / computational social sciences / or similar.
  • Knowledge of empirical research methods (e.g. laboratory and field experiments) and quantitative methods including relevant software (e.g. Python, R, SPSS, MaxQDA)
  • Self-management skills as well as the ability to independently acquire new techniques and methods, for example in relation to natural language processing
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in German and English


At the chair of Prof. Dr. Jan Marco Leimeister, you will mainly work on research projects run by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). The focus of these projects is on generative AI systems in the area of ​​knowledge work. These systems revolutionize knowledge work, but create new challenges and questions from the user's perspective. This includes aspects such as prompt engineering as a new skill in knowledge work, how individuals deal with false information (so-called hallucinations) in work processes, or how work systems ultimately change through generative AI. Through the systematic evaluation (qualitative and quantitative), design principles for work systems should be derived that ensure the effective use of this new class of systems.
