Your role

Key areas of research and innovation:

  • Development of distributed applications utilizing IoT sensing and processing/analytics with mobile devices/trackers and intelligent computing continuums (tracker-edge-cloud)
  • Implementing continuum-native data integration middleware for data-driven decisions including spatially distributed machine learning, micromodels, analytics, and model-driven insights, with service selection across edge, cloud, and serverless resources
  • Exploring the applicability of outcomes in smart agriculture, smart retail, smart mobility, and other emerging fields
Responsibilities include:
  • Contributing to ongoing research and development activities in the aforementioned areas and securing additional projects within the same research domain
  • Participating in R&D projects across Switzerland and the EU, involving travel and exchange stays as necessary
  • Aiding in the transition of research findings to commercial contexts and SMEs
  • Mentoring students on projects and BSc/MSc theses
  • Sharing results through publications in reputable journals and conferences

Your profile

Qualified candidates should hold a Master's degree in computer science or a related field, with an interest in pursuing a practical-oriented Ph.D. in distributed systems. The ideal applicant exhibits a solid theoretical background, enthusiasm for scientific endeavors in the specified fields, proficiency in programming and writing, and excellent English communication skills.
The preferred candidate will showcase a keen insight into the academic, industry, and technological landscapes, the ability to identify unresolved issues, and propose innovative ideas for future ventures. Special emphasis is placed on developing prototypes, engaging hands-on with systems, and scientifically assessing and documenting outcomes.
