Responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, optimization and performance of
critical SQL Server RDBMS systems
- Ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications
- Ensure all database servers are backed up in the way that meets the business's Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
- Test backups to ensure we can meet the business' Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
- As new systems are brought in-house, choose whether to use clustering, log shipping, mirroring, Windows Azure, or other technologies
- Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends.
- Implement industry standard and best practices
- Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms
- Install and configure new SQL Servers
- When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes
- Document the company's database environment
- Monitor database availability, report issues pro-actively and put in place necessary processes to mitigate risks
- Communicate with clients/vendors as required: inform/chase for incident progress, notify them of impending changes or agreed outages
- Fast turnaround of client requests
- Log and prioritize tickets
- Implement ITIL standards for maintaining the database landscape
- Improve user perception, and system stability
Strong Administration skills for Microsoft SQL Server
Experience in working with different versions of SQL server
Must have installation, configuration experience of SQL server in stand-alone, failover and always-On cluster modes
Good knowledge of SQL performance tuning
Capable of writing T-SQL and other programming scripts in SQL
Experience of Integration, Reporting and Analysis services is advantage
Programming skills using JAVA or .Net or any programming language is advantage
Knowledge of other RDBMS databases (MySql/Oracle/Postgres) is an advantage
Fluent in English
Good communication and organization skills
Must be able to multi-task and work under pressure
Ability to work with geographically distributed team
Adapt to changes quickly and communicate effectively
Flexible to work in different time zones as per the work demand
