Participation in the Impact Management Platform is an integral part of UNEP FI's efforts to fulfil its mission to "identify, promote, and realise the adoption of best environmental and sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution operations".

By developing a common understanding of what constitutes impact management and working with peers on common definitions, interoperability solutions, and the filling of definitional and resource gaps, the Platform is a central contribution to the mainstreaming of impact management in business and finance.

Responsibilities:

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.


The overall objective of the UNEP's Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive.

It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities.


The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 400 banks, insurers and investors.

For over 30 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions.

Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to help the financial industry align with and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and with that take on the crucial role it must play in achieving a sustainable future.

The Impact Management Platform ("Platform") is a collaboration between the leading providers of sustainability standards and guidance.

Through the Platform, these initiatives will continue to work together to identify opportunities to consolidate existing sustainability resources, collectively address gaps, and coordinate with policymakers and regulators to support the mainstreaming of impact management.

The Platform is overseen by a Steering Committee comprised of the IFC, OECD, UNDP, UNEP FI and UNGC.


UNEP FI needs an Engagement Consultant to support the Platform roll out its engagement strategy for the first quarter of 2023.


The objectives:

The specific objectives of the consultancy include:

Deliverables include:

  • Updated Market Builder flyer
  • Communications materials for Market Builders, to support the launch of the System Map
  • Updated engagement list
  • Project schedule ahead of the Market Builders update call
  • Confirmation of date, time and hosting arrangements for the call
Specific tasks and responsibilities

The tasks and responsibilities of the consultant will be as follows:

  • Expanding the Platform's group of Market Builders
a. Researching and outreach to potential Market Builders

b. Short introductory calls to explain the work of the Platform, where necessary

c. Maintaining the list and analytics of the Platform's Market Builders engagement list

  • Executing the Platform's second update call with Market Builders
a. Coordinating Platform team's diaries to agree date of call

b. Prepare materials for the call, in coordination with the Platform team

c. Lead on several aspects of the call with Market Builders

d. Coordinate and share relevant materials and follow ups

  • Sharing information to Market Builders as relevant to the Platform's deliverables
a. Updating the Market Builders flyer as required

b. Work with the Platform Manager and Coordinator to develop and supply communications materials related to the System Map, to support understanding and usage


The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head UNEP FI and report directly to the UNEP FI Positive Impact Programme Lead.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic background:
Bachelors' Degree in business, development, humanities or a related field.

Relevant experience:
At least 4 years' experience in relationship management, communications and/or administrative roles.

Demonstrable experience of working to establish and maintain partnerships with several different organisations, as well as with all levels of management.
