Applied Physicist for Novel Meson Extraction

vor 1 Woche

Genf, Genf, Schweiz CERN Vollzeit

Job Description:

Your responsibilities

You will be part of:

  • The Beams department, responsible for the beam generation, acceleration, diagnostics, controls and performance optimization for the LHC and its injector accelerators.
  • The Accelerator and Beam Physics Group, which is responsible for studying and understanding the beam dynamics over the complete CERN Accelerator Complex through theoretical, simulation and experimental studies. The group provides input and support for machine operations, devising settings and scenarios to optimize the machine performance. It is also responsible for working out concepts and ideas for future accelerators.

In this position, you will participate the ESSnuSB+ design study, being responsible for the design of a meson extraction system for meson (pion/muon) extraction downstream the primary target of 1.6MW.

The mesons should be optimally collected considering the space and radiation constraints from the 1.6 MW beam, and guided to match the requirements of the low-energy NUSTORM ring.

The injection system to the ring as well as the sort transfer line in between, strongly coupled to the parameters of the extracted beam, are also parts of the study.
