MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
UNAIDS is mandated by the UN General Assembly to collect data from countries and report progress towards global AIDS response targets.

The Data for Impact Practice leads this AIDS response tracking and reporting, tracks progress and responses towards established targets, identifies inequalities and gaps in the AIDS response, and works to enhance countries' strategic information capacities on the HIV epidemic and response with regards to epidemiology and demographic impact, prevention, treatment and care, societal enablers including laws and policies, and resources (resources with the Equitable Financing Practice).

Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
Under the supervision of the Senior Adviser, and working in close collaboration with other team members, the incumbent is responsible for the following activities:

a) Coordination of workflows related to the development of UNAIDS flagship publications, including the UNAIDS global AIDS update report and World AIDS Day report, with a particular focus on literature reviews and the production of figures and tables.

b) Coordination of the UNAIDS Editorial Board, including provision of up-to-date guidance to UNAIDS staff on the publication processes, supporting them to navigate these process, preparation of Editorial Board meetings, and ensuring timely follow up on the decisions of the Editorial Board.

c) Carry out analysis of HIV- and AIDS-related data, in support of the preparation of UNAIDS flagship publications, updates to regional data hubs, AIDSinfo special analysis, or other similar outputs, as required;

d) Identify innovative approaches in data management, data analysis and data use, including the conceptualization and execution of creative data visualizations and data presentations for the regular Global AIDS update reports and other flagship publications;

e) On assigned subjects, consolidate and analyze data concerning Strategic Information strengthening and integration, drafting and/or contributing to the development of background materials, presentations, research papers and briefings.

f) Perform other related duties as assigned, including replacing and backstopping for others.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Essential: Advanced university degree in epidemiology, data analysis, statistics, development or public health. A relevant first university degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience will be considered as equivalent for internal candidates only.

Experience:
Essential: At least five years of experience in the management and development of data analysis systems, co-operation programmes at national or international levels, including experience in planning, managing and evaluating strategic information systems to inform country responses to HIV.

Desirable: Experience in the UN System or UNAIDS preferably at country level and working with technical meetings or working groups.

Languages:
Essential: Proficiency in English.
Desirable: Knowledge of additional UN official languages.

Additional Information:
Positions at the international professional category within UNAIDS will be subject to the Organization's Mobility Policy. The above mentioned position is a rotational position and its standard duration of assignment is linked to the ICSC hardship classification of the duty station.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 64,121 at single ratePost Adjustment: 81 % of the figure(s) on the left side. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
