General Information
ARIS boasts an extensive background in rocket and engine development, and is now advancing to the next stage, aiming to launch a liquid rocket equipped with a guided recovery system in the coming years.
Since 2017, ARIS has been innovating annually with advanced sounding rockets, competing in events like the Spaceport America Cup and the European Rocketry Challenge, and earning numerous awards. Since 2020, ARIS has been developing guided recovery systems, exploring new areas in student rocketry and setting new standards in the field.
After several years of hybrid rocket engine development, the focus shifted to liquid engines over the past three years. Project LEA designed the initial engine and conducted the first tests. PROMETHEUS transitioned to a cryogenic oxidizer, and HELIOS is currently enhancing and testing the system, performing a parameter study, and developing a sound suppression system.
This job involves developing, designing, manufacturing, and launching a rocket powered by a bi-liquid rocket engine. This challenging task requires collaboration among highly skilled individuals from diverse backgrounds. We’re seeking motivated Propulsion Engineers to achieve ambitious projects and support growth.
About the Job:
As a propulsion engineer your tasks include the development of lightweight flight tanks for the propellants and pressurization fluids, a pressurization system to control the propellant mass feed, a remote filling station capable of handling cryogenics and high-pressure gases, a cryogenic decoupling mechanism, or a vertical test stand. As part of the development and depending on the specific role, you will need multiple tools and skills like CAD, FEA, rapid prototyping, metal processing, fluidic dimensioning, electronics, or programming – hence a multidisciplinary team with members from various backgrounds is required. The propulsion tasks classically involve a significant amount of assembly, testing operations, and troubleshooting. You will profit and build on the existing propulsion knowledge, infrastructure, and industry connections built up throughout 4 Freelance Projects and 4 Focus Projects in the last 6 years.
Useful Skills:
- Basic programming and data science skills
- Understanding of rocket engines and fluid systems
- Experience with CAD and FAE tools
- Willingness to learn and gain experience
Your Qualifications:
- Studying in 2nd Bachelor year or higher – Regardless of University
- Perseverance and willingness to work as part of a passionate team
- Independent work ethic & stable performance under pressure
- Understanding of risk & high degree of situational awareness
- You don’t need to be an expert, but you need to want to become one
Working Conditions:
- Project start: September, 2024
- Duration: Minimum of 2 Semesters
- Working hours: 15-40/h per week, varying
Please be informed that your work will be entirely voluntary. As we are a student project, we do not offer any paid employment. But you will be able to prove your practical experience in your CV.
