Position: Bioinformatician (Graduate Level)

Responsibilities:

  • Data Integration: Utilize your bioinformatics skills to integrate multi-omics data sets, including
    genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and epigenomics.
  • Algorithm Development: Collaborate with team members to develop and implement novel
    algorithms and analytical methods for data integration and interpretation.
  • Statistical Analysis: Conduct statistical analyses to extract meaningful insights from integrated multi-
    omics data sets, contributing to scientific publications and presentations.
  • Software Development: Contribute to the development and optimization of bioinformatics tools and
    pipelines for data processing and analysis.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with interdisciplinary team members, including biologists,
    clinicians, and computational scientists, to achieve project goals and deliver high-quality results.
    The Bioinformatics Core Unit, headed by Dr. Luciano Cascione at the Institute of Oncology
    Research (IOR), seeks a bioinformatician to contribute to a cutting-edge project focused on multi-
    omics data integration. The Bioinformatics Core Unit serves as a pivotal hub for bioinformatics
    expertise within our institution, providing essential support for research projects across various
    domains. Our team specializes in data analysis, algorithm development, and software engineering,
    enabling innovative discoveries and advancing scientific knowledge in the field of genomics and
    multi-omics data integration. Join us to be part of a collaborative environment dedicated to driving

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or R.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and databases commonly used for multi-omics data analysis.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization techniques.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with
    colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Advantages:

  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing data analysis.
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques applied to biological data.
  • Previous experience in a research or industry setting related to bioinformatics or computational
    biology.

The IOR ,affiliated with the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI), is in a new high-tech research building
that hosts more than 20 research groups. It has state-of-the-art labs and facilities, which include a fully new
microbiology lab equipped with anaerobic hoods and an incubator and an innovative microfluidic system for
bacteria (Prospector ® by Isolation Bio). Together with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), the
IOR is a member of Bios+, a non-profit association aiming to promote, support, and coordinate its members'
scientific research and teaching activities (www.biosplus.ch). IOR offers a multicultural and thriving
