“Credit Risk Geneva”

Credit Risk in Geneva is focused on managing the potential credit risk involved through the provision of credit to clients. The team has a vision to ensure that we are all focused on enabling the business through world class credit risk management and our role is to support Bankers in delivering Credit solutions to private banking clients. 

Role Purpose

§Consider, Assess and Sanction credit facilities to eligible borrowers in order to reflect the diverse financing needs of our global client base;

§Manage and control client’s credit portfolio within the appropriate governance structure (including follow-up of outstanding credit violations, Margin Calls/Close Outs, breach of covenants, excess of limits, unpaid interests, etc.);

§Adopt a responsible and considered approach to clients in all lending activity and constantly strive to deliver service excellence to all clients (quality guidance and support to Bankers);

§Monitoring changes in markets and business environments and proactively reacting to any change in the Credit Risk outlook whilst also supporting new business initiatives.

§Building and maintaining a strong partnership and collaborative approach with all key stakeholders in Coverage, Product, Middle Office and wider Risk Function.

Key Accountabilities

Credit Risk Management

§Ensuring the highest standards of credit risk management across the portfolio are maintained and are consistent with mandate and scale limits, credit policies, standards, and procedures and operate within a strong control and conduct risk framework at all times.

§Provide an effective and efficient credit risk sanctioning service for the Swiss Private Bank & Wealth Management platform in Geneva, exercising daily sanctioning activity in line with discretion level assigned by the Senior Credit Officer, Barclays International and producing high quality, clear and concise credit recommendations for high value and complex credit transactions to senior sanctioners.

§Ensure Risk adds value using expert lender experience to support deal teams - engaging early and providing input in local structuring of transactions as and when required by Debt Structuring and Private Bankers.

§Ensure timely identification of adverse risks within the portfolio and early engagement / referral to Special Asset Management where appropriate.

§Producing high quality and accurate MI for Credit MI Central Teams and reports on credit book for credit committees, regulators, and other relevant stakeholders.

§Participate in broader PBWM/Risk projects and initiatives.

§Daily monitoring of clients’ credit positions to:

oensure respect of authorised limits and of security margins,

odetect any clients with unauthorised credit exposures,

orequest and sanction Excess Report where appropriate,

oescalate to Head of Credit any unusual positions / account behaviour.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

§Supporting the Head of Credit Risk Geneva and the Credit Risk team in developing a high performing, motivated team, maintaining excellent stakeholder relationships to ensure achievement of business goals.

§Act as a role model by living the Barclays values; lead by example across ensuring a collaborative approach to the client coverage / Risk Partnership.

§Building a strong collaborative partnership with all key stakeholders through a proactive contact programme with coverage teams and other key stakeholders.

§Build a relevant development program aligned to the Risk Academy.

§Continuing to enable business growth by supporting clients in the right way through lending and business initiatives consistent with commercial objectives.

§Possesses the initiative to think things through and the prudence to refer;

§Interest in financial markets;

§Fast learner, with experience of becoming familiar with new IT systems quickly and accurately;

§Good knowledge of Lending, Operational and Banking procedures;

§High understanding of collateral requirements;

§Excellent Markets and regulatory awareness;

§Strong understanding of Bank’s products and services of the Barclays Group;

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

§Prior experience in Credit Risk and Private Banking.

§International credit risk experience across multiple countries /jurisdictions, specifically UK and France.

§English and French speaking.
