SAGE is a student satellite team with the ambitious goal of launching the first CubeSat carrying human cells. The objective is to investigate how aging occurs differently in space compared to Earth. The team is dedicated to developing and testing a flight-ready spacecraft, learning about aerospace engineering along the way, and ultimately launching their contribution to space
The Biological Payload (PAY) TeamThe Biological Payload Team is focused on the scientific aspect of the mission, specifically the study of human cells in space. This team designs and implements the biological experiments, as well as the technology needed to for automized cell culture in the harsh space environment.
The Position – Microfluidic Heating EngineerThe microfluidic chip is crucial for creating a complex and controlled environment to keep the cells in optimal conditions while in space. Maintaining a temperature of around 37 degrees Celsius, comparable to human body temperature, is a vital part of this environment. As a Microfluidic Heating Engineer, you will test and implement a unique heating system designed during a previous Master’s thesis, ensuring the precise temperature control necessary for our biological experiments.
What you should bring:
- (Basic) knowledge of control systems
- Basic understanding of thermodynamics
- Interest in practical, hands-on work
- Ideal field of study: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week
