The Vetsuisse-Faculty from the University of Bern, Switzerland is looking for a POSTDOC / PhD student (100%) starting 1st of July 2024 or earlier for the project: 'Swiss Vettriage System' - teletriage for animals. This pilot project will establish the prerequisites for a veterinary teletriage system for animal owners of small animals (dogs and cats), equines and ruminants. The primary objective of this project is to develop an extensive, structured question database. This database will be instrumental in remotely evaluating and determining the urgency of an animal's health condition. Our goal is helping owners on whether immediate in-person veterinary care is needed for their animal or if the situation can be managed at home. Furthermore, the vettriage system aims to support the veterinary emergency services by only directing genuine emergencies to the relevant practices and clinics. %kundenfeld-60%

Job description

  • Literature search on emergency triage in veterinary medicine
  • Development of an ordered question database for the different species that allows emergencytriage
  • Testing and validation of the question algorithm for the different species
  • Processing and publication of the research results in national and international scientificjournals

    Requirements

    We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated veterinarian with a degree acceptable for matriculation at a Swiss University (Bologna compatible) and experience in first-line or emergency medicine, ideally in mixed practice. The candidate should be proactive, have excellent communication skills and possess a good attitude to work in a team as well as independently. Good written and spoken knowledge of English and German is expected. A special interest in computer science and data management is advantageous. The ideal candidate has a doctoral degree and/or a veterinary Board specialisation and experience with publishing in peer-reviewed international journals.

    Our offer

    Our group offers a 4-year project in a young and dynamic environment. As this project is a cooperation between different Departments of the Vetsuisse Faculty in Bern, supervision and support is provided both by Board certified veterinary specialists working with the different species and experts in statistics, neural networks, and artificial intelligence. In addition, during this project you will cooperate with external partners with experience in developing and running human teletriage services. Salary will be according to the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation (www.snf.ch).
